Ailwee Cave
Located just over an hour's drive from the Absolute hotel and located in the heart of the Burren in County Clare you will find the Ailwee Caves.
Perched high on the Burren terraced mountainside which provides the most beautiful views of Galway bay.
The Cave was first discovered in 1940 by a local farmer who had followed his dog into the cave. It was not until 1973 that he told people about the cave and in 1977 the cave was fully explored and mapped.
Formed by water flowing through cracks in the limestone hill, the cave system consists of over a kilometer of passages leading into the heart of the mountain. Its features include an underground river and a waterfall as well as some large stalactites and stalagmites.
Over the 30 minute tour, your expert guides will accompany you over ridged chasms, under weird formations, and alongside the thunderous waterfall.
They will bring you back to the outside world where you can browse and shop in a distinctly different gift shop which is housed in the award-winning complex that guards the entrance to the Burren underground. It is a must-see for anyone who finds themselves in the area.
